CoH DX10 Patch

Thread Starter
Has anyone tried the DirectX 10 patch for Company or Heroes?

Apparently, according to CustomPc magazine that a 8800Ultra has a minimum frame rate of 10fps and an average frame rate of 47fps at 1280x1024, 2x AA.

Sounds crazy that the latest hardware can't even play a small DX10 patch. Looking at the screenshots it only adds some small rocks on the ground, improves shadows and light effects. Thats it.
If anything it sounds like poor coding. There should be no reason that top of the line hardware only achieves an average of 47 and a min of 10.

hmm... i dunno. I bet you AMD & Nvidia have simply brought out dumbed down cards until DX10 properly comes out so that they can sell another load of models that play it well.

I play it @ 1920 x 1200 fine, max everything 4 x AA (or force the Supersampling) on Vista 64

Overall I find it quite playable, say 30-55fps Ive never had a dip to unplayable (15fps) levels in campaign or skirmish (using maybe 6 other bot teams) either that or I havent noticed it. Im only losing a few frames over XP x86, nothing too drastic in an RTS.

Every single benchmark ive seen using my GPU and similarly specced machines seem to paint a bad picture, then when i get home im blown away cause i was expecting the worst.

I dont believe any tech-sites benchmarks anymore. My mate didnt believe me that it was playable, came round, saw for himself. Proof is in the pudding

Call of juarez benchmark thingy runs great too, much higher than the benchmarks from websites would suggest but still poor framerates IMO for an FPS game

granted the FPS of all DX10 hardware is very poor, but it is improving, and exciting considering its in its infancy

Your talking about playing it with the DX10 patch, not DX9 right?

It's software related, don't worry. I can play Lost planet on all settings maxed with smooth gameplay.
Edit... the DX10 Lost Planet

I play it fine at 1920x1200 everything maxed (High/Ultra) with no AA (why do you need AA at that high a resolution?).

im not surprised that dx10 patch is not running smooth, the dx10 cards where put out before anygames where ever made, so they where kinda out there fro testing i think. so when the next series of Nvidia or ATI cards come out it will be able to run 60+ frames i think

There was some error in the last DX9 version where if you set some (or maybe one) of the texture settings to Ultra, it would run like crap. I think it only mattered on Vista machines though.
