Multipliers??? NBCC?? Orthos??? Questions!!

Kk, I got a couple questions.
-What orthos test should I be using to solely test CPU (small FFT, large FFt, blend?)

-What are the pros and cons of lowering the multiplier?

I have an e4400 with a EVGA 650i mobo.

Also, can someone better explain the northbridge to me? How do I know what voltage its at? How do I know what the bandwidth of it is? How do I know what Strap I'm in?

I read the guide and got more confused.

-could someone explain to me the idea of "flooding" the CPU with ram? and the whole RAM bandwidth - timings ideas?

Again, As I said, the above guide was very very helpful, but it confused me alot. Cheers.

Oh, forgot. If anyone has the same mobo as me, (EVGA 650i) or at least the same BIOS, please please post here or pm me. I don't know what a couple of the settings to, if they should be enabled or disabled, and it is killing me.

EDIT: got a new question. How can this be true?
http://www.overclock.net/faqs/117377...an-i-push.html
Its an FAQ talking about PCI limitations/ Why am I running way over 2.3 ghz, cause I have the pci at 33.33?

THANKS FOR THE HELP!

Orthos: use it only to test the cpu large fft i think, there should be an option to choose CPU only. Use memtest to test the ram.

Pros are:
- Lower temperatures (i have not proven it yet)
- Hihger memory clock if linked. (400*8 gives ddr2-800 while 333*9 gives ddr2-667

Cons are
- Better motherboard stability: motherboards run better with lower FSBs
-if your motherboard cant hit high FSB, it will limit the CPU overclock.
-if your ram wont hit the high clocks, you may have to run it unlinked.

HIgher clocked ram gives more bandwidth. Ex DDR2-800 at stock is 800MHZ. if you manage to overclock it to 1100mhz, your bandwidth will increase and you will see a performance increase.

I have a 650i chipset board

33.33mhz is the default bus speed for PCI slots

GO HERE, to input your system stats.

You said you have the 650i EVGA mobo? Could you help me out with a few things?

KK, that good?

Alright, I'm about at the end of OCing my CPU now, runing 2910 at 1.2375 vcore.

Highest load temp is 53c lowest is 48c. Going to go into BIOS agian,

Is there anything I can do to lower temp from BIOS, like multiplier?

Also, should I decrease my OC about 150mhz and run my final Orthos test for like 18 hrs to maintian stablenes? Should I decrease vcore again? (I'm thinkin no...)

Not evga, but Asus 650i board. Should be the same settings, just different look.

Here are the ONLY settings you should be playing with(EDIT: for now):

FSB
Linked/unlinked ram setting
Ram speed (if not linked)
Vcore: cpu voltage
Vdimm: ram voltage (do not go over 2.0 yet, i dont know what ram you have)
Ram timings: ex: 4-4-4-14 2T
boot sequence: cdrom, harddrive etc...

Lookaround the bios or take a screenshot with a cam if you can and find where those settings are...

Just do this... recommended settings if you have an aftermarket cpu cooler

1)lower cpu multi to 9x
2)set QDR to 1000 and it should @ 3.0 now
3)either link and sync the ram or unlink and set to 800
3)set voltage to ~1.375
4)raise northbridge voltage to 1.4 (recommended if you have aftermarket NB cooler such as TT Spirit II from Newegg)
5)cpu fsb to 1.3
6)ram to 2.1 if running 4-4-4-12-t1 ram timings
7)restart, if it doesnt startup then wait eventually it will cuz of the overclock protection feature then go into bios and raise vcore. if it does startup, see if you can load into windows. if yes, run orthos for ~5mins. if everything is ok, lower vcore or raise QDR.

im running 3.2 currently on my rig. 400x8. lets see how high u can go.

thats a really low vcore, hope its stable.

Couple of questions.

2) QDR at 1000 with a 9x multiplier runs at 2250. not 3.0.

4)What is the nb voltage? is that the sbb?

Shouldn't that be a con? If he lowers the multi, he has to raise the FSB even higher to get the same clock.
