yeah but when you put directx 10 on them they wont do so well...now for the directx9 cards they will do better in the near future because they are limited to directx9...that will sacrifice the eye candy but will scare the ***** out of the dx10 cards..in terms of fps at least

Yes, but...All the Dx10 games currently available are all just patched DX9 games. It remains to be seen how a "built from the ground up" DX10 game will play, like Crysis. But I'm just as skeptical as you are.

DX10 also isn't going to be the mainstream standard for a while to come. It's not like games are just going to stop being made in DX9 anytime soon.

And if someone were looking to build a new computer or upgrade their GPU, a current DX10 card would be the way to go since they run DX9 games so well.

Edit - DX9 has some pretty eye candy btw. Just play Oblivion or Company of Heroes. They're very pretty games when the settings are maxed.

i agree...just need to look at half life 2...about building a new computer. if you are short in the buck like me i think its a better option to go for the x1950pro instead of the 8600GT sence they are in the same priceline...at least here where i live

I've been told to wait before getting a DX10 card. Oh, and when I hear about these "DX10 patches" I tut my head; it's like 64-bit patches; massive requirements, and you don't see ****. Next time, get a DX10 GAME.
I just hope these do EVENTUALLY become sort of a standard. I'd like to see more games as insanely realistic as Crysis. I also hope DirectX 10 gives better framerates eventually...

in the second gen of cards maybe....iam a bit skeptical about these first cards...i dont think they will do what they were made for...at least in the way people anticipate it

I would go for the 8600GTS not the GT,the 8600GTS ownes the x1950pro and they are about the same price, you can get a good 8600GTS for newegg for 10-15$ more than a x1950pro.I dont realy see the 8600GTS or and thing lower than a 8800 ultra as a DX10 card becuase none of them have shown that they can realy handle it.but we will see.

Working with a developer to make sure your card performs well with the game is something that's been going on for years. Nvidia does it too. It's not like they code in something to make it run like dog crap on anyone elses card.

I do not believe they 'rigged'. I skimmed over the article a while ago and it just seems that there is a difference in the two cards architecture that causes the nvidia to conflict with the game. Something to do with the AA if i recall.

One huge reason is drivers. Vista Drivers still suck for the 8800's and the dx10 support is worse
