Need advice about HDTV

Thread Starter
Right in a few weeks I'm going to buy a PS3 and start to build a new PC. What I need to know is what do I need on the HDTV to make it compatible with a PC. As I want to have the PS3 and PC to be used with the one TV. Thanks in advance for any help.

I would recommend you get a HDTV as then you have a high enough resolution for you to comfortabley use the TV as a Monitor.

720p or 1080p will be what you want.
720p should be fine but if you like full resolution go with the 1080p from Samsung.

Amazing TV's

Thanks for your reply, do I need any specific compatibility features on the HDTV to make it compatible with the PC?

Aslong as it has a VGA or HDMI port you will be fine.

I do beleive VGA port (Blue one) only run at 1024x768 or thats what it is on mine, however HDMI (DVI-HDMI Cable) will run at the HDTV's resolutions for example 720p and 1080p.

Bassically any new HDTV will normally have VGA, HDMI, Component inputs which will support all HD consoles and PC inputs.

VGA and HDMI are your primary PC inputs.

And just s you know HDMI is bassically DVI but with Audio aswell, so if you get a HDMI mobo or the HD2900XT you can run your Audio aswell as Video to your new TV

This is a bit tricky.... to support 1080p, I believe you need a Dual-Linked DVI port.

To support 1080p HDCP, I believe you need a 8600/8500 or a a AMD HD 2x000. Confirm this....

What to look for:

DVI or VGA input on HDTV and at LEAST 1 HDMI input. Verify resolutions on the VGA/DVI input; Some may give you full HD, others might not. It depends on the make and model of the TV.

Check for native resolution. If a TV's native resolution is 720p and it says it supports 1080i, you're not getting 1080i. Native res is very important.

Another important factor is contrast ratio. The higher the better. For example, 7000:1 is bettter than 1000:1.

Most LCD's today support full HD, 1080p. Very few plasmas do.

Well ps3 supports 1080p resolutions so it would be ideal to get a tv which can run 1080p and they arnt too cheap..but ive come across a 1080p samsung 40" with 15,000:1 contrast ratio for under £1000...which is probably the cheapest.http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=AV-039-SA
