Future-proof n00b build for as little cost possible

So im a complete n00b to PC building, i have never built one, i've only owned gateway/dell laptops in the past, and i want to build a decent gaming pc that will still be able to play future games pretty decently-perfect quality. I'd prefer not to spend more than $1800 on this build.

Here is the link to my wish list on newegg: https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion...37;24%24+Build

It comes out to about $1700 after rebates/shipping/etc.

My one dilema is that i'm willing to wait for the quad-core price drops (a Q6600), but will a Q6600 overclocked with air cooling be able to make the GTX perform better than an E6600 with air cooling?

Any criticisms are MORE than welcome!

Also, this computer will mainly be used for gaming, with some graphic/video/audio editing on the side (but not a HUGE part).

I'm also willing to stick with the onboard sound for now

if your looking for future proof then wait for the quad core.. right now quads arent really necessary because hardly anything utilizes all 4 cores. but some of the games in the near future will require a quad core in order to utilize the highest settings. my advice is to wait

Doesn't look to bad. For some reason you have 4 2Gb kits of ram listed... might want to adjust that. I'd also recommend avoiding the TR 680i mobo, as it doesn't support any quad core overclocking. check out eVGA's site for info on the different board specs.

I also second the Q6600, it may not OC to the clock of a E6600 (though recent steppings have been only marginal), but its much more future proofed. and with that size monitor you probably don't need a GTX, a GTS640 would do just fine for now, and save you a couple hundred bucks.
It's about time!

will the quad core still run all the games decently that ive been missing out on in the meantime? (ie CS:Source, STALKER, FEAR, Oblivion, BF2, etc.)
