Discrepancies between Core 1 and Core 2 temp

Thread Starter
I'm currently using Everest Ultimate to monitor my temps and try to keep on eye on my system and have noticed that Core 1 and Core 2 temps are off by a 4-6 degree discrepancy. Is this normal? idle is around 28c and load is 30-31c (pretty good if I understand this stuff properly).

Is the difference caused by perhaps an improperly seated heat sink? I've pulled it and made sure the thermal compound is evenly distributed and the sink is centered.

The chip itself is cool to the touch even after a serious gaming session...I'm just worried that a minor difference in the core temps would cause some uneven thermal expansion or such, not sure how it works for cores just for physics =p (can't imagine the same rules don't apply)

anyways I appreciate your responses and pending on feedback I'm going to start edging it towards 3.0ghz

Completely normal. One core (core 0 usually) will always be hotter than the other.

EDIT: Core 0 "works" harder than Core 1, also, use either coretemp or tat (if you have an intel chipset) for more accurate readings.

Nope, it is normal. It is caused by unequal loads when you take the temperature reading. It is also caused by subtle differences creating during the manufactoring processes.

An improperly HS would have little to do with it since you only have one physical die. It is very unlikely that a HS mounting would just be off to affect only one core.
Once again...

Its perfectly normal. 100% may seem an equal load to both cores, but it isn't perfectly equal. I normally have a difference of 4-5c while SMP folding.

Don't worry about a thing.
