Help Overclocking my AMD 3800 X2 S939

Thread Starter
Hey guys, Im kinda new to this overclocking business. Ive recently upgraded from and AMD 64 3000 (which I only managed to overclock to 2.2Ghz) to an AMD 3800 X2 S939 which Ive only managed to run at 2.2Ghz I was wondering if anyone has one of these running at the moment and what kinda settings have you used to overclock? Id like to maintain standard voltages if possible for the mean time untill I learn a little more about the process.. Ive been told I should be able to achieve clock speeds of 2.6 without any voltage change, is this correct? Im sorry if Im being very "noobie" please help me Thank you

H

Yeah you should be able to get 2.6. Try lowering your ram devider to the next lower spot. If you have ddr400 drop it to 333. If there is a place to lock your pci bus, do so. Try bumping the FSB a little and test.

My am2 3800+ required a volt change once I hit 2.4, but stock it was 1.25v and I got to 2.6ghz on 1.32v.

Cool, so if I drop my ram back to 333 and then try booting at 2.4 that should be ok? Id ideally like to get to 2.6, thats kinda my goal to be honest When i raise voltage how would I go about doing that because ive heard I need to run much higher speeds to post with higher voltages.. Is this right? Also would it benifit me to drop my multiplier back to 9* and work from there?

First you need to make sure that your Mobo is not the limiting factor ,drop the HT link multi to 3x drop your CPU Multi to 9x and use the lowest divider on the memory and raise fsb a little but till you reach 260X9 and get into windows and run a quick stabilty test for 10min just to make sure that system is running fine ,,, next step is to do the same thing again with same memory divider but CPU on Multi of 10 so you are sure that the Mobo is not holding you and check for stability again ,, third step is to start to use higher memory divider till you max your ram coz it is not easy to overclock 3GB of memory

Yes, that will help, but when I run cpu-z it shows my voltage at 1.5v, when it is really at 1.32v, so check your bios for true voltage.

No don't take anything out ,, 3GB might take more effort to reach higher clocks
The ht "Hypertransport" link will run by default @ multi of 5x that makes it 200 fsb Multiplied 5x multi to do 1GHZ (default) ,, if you raise FSB and keeping ht link without change @ 5 you might get stability problems and off course you don't need all the 1GHZ of the HT so running @ 260 X 3 wont give you any performance hit
