I switched from a NVIDIA GeForce 6100 + NF410 chipset to a NVIDIA nForce 550+ and it worked fine.

Can't argue with proof.

I moved from an Asus socket 754 to a DFI socket 939 and didnt need to reinstall windows. It will work just fine, just install the new motherboard drivers along with the old ones. Some of the old automatic processes from the last motherboard might display errors because the computer works differently now, but Im betting it will mostly work the same. I did in the end reformat ANYWAYS, because it cleaned the system of everything the old system left behind. However, it is possible that it will run on your machine and you wont have to reinstall windows. Im gonna give it a 90% chance, but then I only have my experience to go on.

Suffice to say, it may work, but doing a clean install is highly recommended anyways.

I work on these things every day.

The motherboard doesn't matter, it's the chipset that matters. Typically if it's the same brand of chipset, no reinstall is required. Going from Nforce to say, VIA, you might have problems. VIA to NForce isn't a problem though. Uninstallation helps but if you're replacing a failed motherboard, that's another story.

Nevertheless, I would simply do a clean load after the motherboard swap.
