Northwood VS Prescott.

Thread Starter
Ok just I am looking for a new P4 and I found 2 on ebay. They are both 3GHz. One is northwood and the other prescott. Even if I saw several comparisons with northwood and prescott CPUs I still have doupts so I am asking here. The this is prescott CPUs have 1mb cache while northwood 512k. So why noprth wood is always better? Is it because of the 0.13 micron mfg tech? (no i do not know what thats means). Northwood costs 53 euro and prescott 56 euro. Well prescott has the box and the fan too but I already have a cooler so I do not really care.

I have a Northwood in my Dell. It sucks.

Doesn't the prescott have HT and the northy doesn't?

I think that depends on the model but I am sure northwood has HT, not the one I am getting though probably.

All I know is that, if you get a Prescott, and it gets high temps, don't worry, since Prescott's get much higher temps. but can handle much higher temps.

Ok I checked. Seems the Northwood that I found has HT. So I should go for the prescott?

IIRC the difference isn't HT. i think they both have HT, i think it has something to do with the L2 cache. i think the prescotts is higher

ummm what is the Bus/Core Ratio? Is it the multiplier? The prescott has 24 and the northwood has 15. >>

Ok it seems there are 2 different prescotts with HT. One has 24 Bus/Core ratio and core stepping G1 and the other 15 bus and D0 stepping..

I need some other help. I am between 3 CPUs right now. One northwood that has 512 cache, one prescott that has 1mb cache, is older (stepping C0) and the voltages it has are 1.25 - 1.525 and a prescott that is newer (stepping D0) and the voltages it has are 1.25 - 1.4. What do I do? ^^''
