Abit IP35 Pro 540fsb

Well I got my new mobo setup and started doing some ocing. The board is pretty nice as far as layout but I noticed they are using the thinner pcb's like the dfi dark. Good caps though.

Anyways so the first thing I did was strip it of its copper colored aluminum heatpipe cooler. In all actuality it would probably have been sufficient for ocing but I figured I would take it off anyways. The PWM part was actually only touching about a third of the mosfets. Pretty bad if you ask me. So I tore apart a HDD mounting/cooling part and cut it up to make it fit on the PWM area and mounted it up. So far teh highest temp for the pwm is 30c that I have scene.

It wouldnt boot at first because of the default ram voltage of 1.8. Changed that and walla booted right up. The bios screen is blazing fast so you actually gotta be quick to enter the bios (occasionally I didnt even catch it).

I was able after raising the vmch a little bit to about 1.5 to reach 540fsb which considering just about 15 minutes of ocing with the board is pretty good. Granted its no 600+ but Ill work on that later.

These screen shots are actually with my ballistic ddr2 6400 2x1gb kit. I noticed a couple of things right away with this baord, everything runs really cool. The ram even at this speed and 2.25vdimm seemed really cool to the touch which is kind of odd. The cpu also needs far less voltage to get these oc's compared to what I was use to. I actually booted up at 3.6ghz with 1.37 actual vcore.

So far I cant get above 540fsb no matter what I do either ram timings or voltages so I think I may have a fsb limited cpu, the highest I could get it to post was about the same fsb with my dfi 965-s and same thing with it it wouldnt go any higher on the fsb.

Gonna do some stability testing and see if I can get my voltages lower as this was just quick guesses at what I would need.

The Pi times are bad because of lack of tuning and running vista which took about 1.5 to 2 sec off my pi time compared to XP.

Awesome results there Max, 3.6 ghz on 1.37 vCORE is something I could live with. . Keep us updated 600+ fsb would be rather pimp. I'm sure if you were playing with a P5K or something you would have gotten a ton of responses... It seems abit doesn't get as much respect as asus.

How does the PCB thickness compare to that of the Quadgt?

I think the quadgt was a very good built board, this one seems a little thinner to the quad about the same as my dfi dark. I dont think I can get close to 600 with this cpu. Still I am happy with it so far. Nothing super outstanding but good enough to get some good oc's

Yep the first thing I did was build it up, thats what I based my phase install guide on was this board.

I have passed a occt 30 min run at 510x8 (4080mhz) with 1.54vcore load (in windows) which is pretty good for my chip. On the 965 chipset it took about 1.58 to do the same thing.

Still playing with it though.

thats pretty sweet, sounds like most of the P35 chipsets are oc'ing good, MadMax do ya recommend this board, i've been debating between this and the Asus P5K Deluxe.

I dont know since this the only one that I have really scene here. There are some people at XS that have it but not very many. I personally would like to have tried the cheaper versions of the same thing too see how they oc.

The asus seems to be a more proven board so far and would be a good call for one of these type of boards. Sorry I cant say anymore on it, I havnt tried the asus board so it may be a better board under my components.

I probably wont find out though since I think my next board will be a P38 with ddr3 or the next chipset after that depending.

The msi looks promising also and its weird NB cooling actually works prety good (better then asus) from what I have scene. The gigabyte ones are nice also. There are so many to choose from that are ocing great its hard to decide. I got this one because noone had it really so figured I would tryit out.

yea that msi does seem pretty good, but the asus with it being more proven is probably what i'm leaning towards, but at about 50 bucks cheaper the abit looked like a worthy contender. well good luck with it and a 540 fsb still isn't anything to sneeze at.

Yeah I was hoping for more and more may be possible with a different cpu, It didnt matter with multi change or any voltage change so I am thinking its one oe the other is stuck at that fsb. I am waiting for one of those 6750 to come out and try that.

Heres a pic of occt for 510x8, just a quick bench. Had to do a fresh install of vista since I kind of borked up the last one. I had taken my install from the 965 board and it worked kind of but then later on I was playing with some ram speeds and over did my self and it killed it so I installed again

Pretty decent chipset voltage for that overclock!

I'm glad the P35 chipset is doing well for all motherboard makes.
