Quote:
This just in from Take Two Interactive, publisher of the embattled Manhunt 2:

The ESRB has issued an initial rating of AO (Adults Only) for Manhunt 2.

We believe the process of rating videogames is to help people make informed entertainment choices and not to limit them.

Manhunt 2 was created for mature audiences and we strongly believe it should receive an M (Mature) rating, aligning it with similar content created in other forms of media. We are exploring our options with regard to the rating of Manhunt 2.

Beyond that, T2 isn’t talking. It is unknown exactly when the AO was assigned to Manhunt 2, but it would have to have been less than 30 days ago, based on earlier comments by ESRB president Patricia Vance.

GP: For a video game publisher, the economic impact of an AO rating cannot be overstated. It means that major retailers like Wal-mart, which by itself accounts for about 25% of retail games sales, will not carry Manhunt 2. There is an appeal process available to game pubilshers who wish to dispute rating assignments.
This sucks, but might also be good to build hype. The game looks amazing, and better than the original, here's hoping so, i'll be picking it up for the PSP!!

Game will ship on July 9th, 2007

I for one think we need more AO games. There are plenty of other places other than walmart that will sell these games, if walmart doesnt sell them people will just go to a different store... lol. So its really walmarts loss, not the games.

What does AO exactly mean? Will some / most stores still carry it? And I thought that now they need to make sure you are 17 or older to buy a game rated M.

So, now they need to make you wait another year? I don't get it, someone please explain.

Who actually buys games regularly at walmart?? Definetly not big spenders who buy alot of games. I usually hit up EB Games, or a local store named GameCraze which has every game system and games imaginable except pc games . Also i don't think an AO rating will effect the games sales outside of those kids and teens that would have hounded their parents to buy it....some of those brats will still get it probably even now though which sucks....Is EB still going to carry the game on shelves?? Mine has posters for it everywhere and i wonder if they will take them down now...

Well it's like M but kids can't ask permission now, it's Adults Only period, it's kinda like saying GTA is a R rated Movie(M), and Manhunt 2 is a Porno(AO). Also stores can't or won't have it on shelves even if they carry it. Some say it's the Kiss of Death, now will actually see since this is the first game....

That pic they have for the article is full of win. Manhunt 2 is going to rock so much face. I feel like playing Manhunt now... Lol.

Yea this rating is going to make the game sell more...

I wasn't planning on buying it and now i'm buying it for sure just to see what the hype is about!

Bring on the AO!

25% of gamers buy there games at walmart? I find that hard to believe. EBgame/Gamestop will also not carry AO games, but who cares? Nearly every household has internet and thats all you need to buy a game.

Come on, the game looks friendly enough, just put it on shelves people....(psp screenshot)

Well how can EB NOT sell it especially since they've been pushing preorders for it...Would they cancel those now? Seriously doubt that.
Sweet, I'm buying.

Release date is July 10, 2007. Might want to put that in the first post. I just want it for the sheer prestige of having the first AO game.

I bet Jack Thompson is already dumping himself over this.
