laptop HELP PLEASE BEGGING YOU - Page 3

This is a right pain the jaxie way of doing it but to obtain the SATA drivers you need you're going to have to get Vista back onto your laptop with the manufacturer's restore disc. You then need to browse to the C:\\Windows\\System32\\Drivers directory and look for the correct .SYS file for the SATA controller of the laptop motherboard. This will then need to be put onto a floppy disc before you try to get XP on there. Once the SATA drivers are on a floppy you will be prompted at some point to press F6 during the XP installation procedure to load the SATA drivers so installation of the operating system can continue.

*Phew

Though if you could find out the model of your laptop's motherboard you may be able to find the SATA drivers with Google. I'd try this first if you want to save your sanity.

Never heard of such a thing as SATA drivers for lappies to accept XP. I myself have a Toshiba A200 and the only problem which made stick to Vista was that Toshiba website didn't have drivers for XP for things like sound card, video, access butons, and so on. Installed XP with no big problems here. Don't even know the recovery CD exists, unless I want easy access to Vista drivers and stuff. But the Toshiba site has got loads of them to download, bu not for XP. Your HDD seems to be of 200GB, but if the BIOS has it, the rest should do the same. I simply inserted XP CD and formated the whole thing. Is it because your HDD is 200GB you are not able to see it using XP CD? Strange, most strange.

what you need to do is look on the bios for some options pertaining to sata. My friend gave me an hp and after a talk to the techs there i had to turn off some type of sata feature. List anything to do with sata thats on the bios.

boot with GParted live CD and format the drive

google it and download, burn and boot from it. then just delete all partitions and you have a clean drive

Nigel, have you found all the necessary drivers for XP? If so, care to tell us? As I said, have a similar lappie, but Toshiba doesn't show drivers for XP (video card, sound, access butonsand so on). Glad to hear you've solved your problem.

Download a program called "D-Ban", burn it to a disc (fits on a floppy, if you have a floppy drive in your lappy), and boot to it.

It'll wipe your HDD completely clean, so back up your stuff first. Then just install XP as normal.
2 OP pls nerf
