Weird issue OC C2D!

post #1 of 26
Thread Starter
Whenever I OC my E6600, even if I OC like 50 Mhz, it just works great. But sometimes it just restarts without a warning(sometimes it freezes first before restart) It's not the temps.

Like today, I was installing photoshop, and it just restarted. I'm sick of it to install something 3 times before I can use it.

What am I doing wrong? What should I change in BIOS?

I tried already this:

- different RAM timings
- spread spectrum disabled
- upped and lowered voltages on everything

Settings now:

337.5 x 9 = 3037.5 Mhz @ 1.46v, CPU VTT= 1.39v

Memory = 5-6-6-16(auto) @ 2.08v

SB= 1.62v
NB= 1.42v

might be a bad, volthungry chip, might be your RAM not being stable at the speeds its running. try to set it as slow as possible, and see if it gets stable.

lol, too me it sounds like it isn't stable. maybe you should take it down a bit, lol

Max out your CPU VTT voltage to 1.55v for a start.

How do I suppose to make sure it's stable when I can't get it stable, that's the problem. I need to know how to make it stable, I tried everything.

Now , few minutes ago, while I was answering your post it restartet again.

Have you tried leaving you modem unhooked? Have you tried the other ethernet port on your mb? I've never seen anything like PC restarts be associated with a modem.

I think in Asus' bios there is a way to disable each ethernet port. I know in my P5K you can disable either one or both.

I doubt the ethernet has anything to do with it though and it does sound like a stability issue to me. Do you have NB/SB cooling other than stock? My P5N32-E SLI 680i didn't like a NB over 1.35 with stock cooling, not sure why.

I would lower that SB it shouldn't be that high for that overclock. Only other thing I can say is your NB might need to be raised slightly, or lowered. If lowered doesn't help then I would say you need some other cooling on it and to raise it.

sounds like my c2d i cant go past 2.81ghz and thats not even stable. whats your batch?
