My first overclock E6320

Thread Starter
Hello everyone, i'm new here and glad to be a part of this community.

Yesterday night I got my E6320's clockspeed to 2.6Ghz (stock 1.86).
Everything seemed to be very nice at the begining but now when I'm doing a torture test in Prime95, the cpu temp is at 60C.

I think i gotta find myself a new cooling for my cpu, 60C isn't good (is it?!)
please advice me for one.
I kind of need you to give me prespective about temperatures, what are the limits for C2D etc.

I hope this one is good, from time to time I'm trying to lower the volts by one notch.
yesterday when I run TAT, the cpu got to 70C, the mobo to 52C or something (now it's on 41 which is normal I think).
I guess it got so hot because the volts were too high right? and when i lower them a bit more it will be a bit cooler, or am i wrong?

I need suggestions for improving the cpu clock, i'd like to get it up to 3ghz but i guess i won't be able to until i have a 800mhz memory chip.

besides that, lets say i did have 800mhz memory chip, and i got the bus up to 400 or even 450 (which is possible as i understood), at what temp my cpu was running?

You really want to keep those temperatures down. What vCore are you running the chip at? For C2D you really want to keep the temperatures under 60C and to be 100% safe you want them under 50C.

For 2.66 is totally possible on stock voltage (1.325). You may even be able to undervolt it and be stable, therefore lowering the temps.

currently it's on v1.35, i'll lower it after i finish downloading the 3dmark06 and tell you how it went.

about cpu cooling part, no suggestions?
I know Tuniq Tower is very very good, but i won't be able to get it here for the next few months.

Well, here is what I would do. Lower the volts and then run orthos for 15 minutes or until you get instability. That will rule out any major instability. Once you find the minimum amount of volts you need run orthos and monitor your temps, if there is no difference between it and stock voltage, just go back to stock. Also use TAT or CoreTemp, nothing else. They will give you the most accurate readings.

whe3ls: yes i do.
This is the one, click here.

JoeUbi, i'll do what you said just as soon as my download is finished.
but i gotta tell you, when i set in the bios the core volt by 1 notch lower (v1.325)
the field line went yellow (i guess it happened to warn me it might not be enough).

I have SpeedFan but i didn't figure out how do i know if the fan is doing on 100%.
I guess it is, besides, the heatpipe is really heat, i would guess it's at room temperature or abit more.
