Sorry...I was talking about Rockstar games in general. But I will say this....Storylines don't matter much, unless the game is VERY linear. Let me explain. If a game is designed on the pretense of :

Guy is being framed for crimes he didn't commit. He must get away and prove his innocence or hide from those seeking to do him harm.

Now, the pretenses of that game are certainly not what I would consider to be "wrong", or inappropriate. However, if all you do in the game is brutally butcher people, commit crimes, and display realistic violence and murder, simply for the sake of being able to show realistic violence and murder, then IMO, it ceases to be a game developed on good pretenses, and merely becomes a game designed to shock and insight controversy, and generate sales. And I may be wrong about Manhunt2 ...I am just talking about Rockstar(and those types)games in general at this point.

And maybe I'm just a wuss, but even as my friends were playing GTA3, I was happily playing stuff like CoD, and MoH...yeah we were all shooting people. But hey...at least I was shooting Nazi's ...lol

Furthermore, I would like to say, that generally, I am all for freedom of choice and thought. I do not feel that anyone should dictate to me how I should think or act. However, we do not live in a closed society. The actions of one, often effect the many. That said, game developers DO have a responsibility to act , well...responsibly. The question is, which I'm certainly not prepared or qualified to answer, where do we draw the line? /shrug

I obtained Postal 2, not sure it was for sale in the UK. I know it was banned in New Zealand.

The only responsiblity that Rockstar and all the other Developers really have is to create entertainment. It is up to us as humans, and some of us as parents to should decide what is right for us and our children. Manhunt is obviously not for children, nor is it being promoted to them. Then again i also don't want my kid playing pokemon all day.... I feel it is unfair for stores to not provide access to material that i want because they feel it isn't for teens/children when it is their fault if those kids actually get it. If they would enforce the same rules they fought for, we wouldn't have the government attempting to invade our rights as americans.

It is a ridiculous game with no point, that is alot worse than Manhunt could ever be except Manhunt actual is good and has alot better graphics and animations...

IGN's description:
Quote:
The game postulated that the stresses of suburban life can sometimes push people over the edge and turn normal citizens into reckless maniacs. In this case, you played the part of the maniac.

I agree most everything you said. As I previously stated, I feel like I am betraying myself and my past convictions by defending/supporting any form of censorship. But at some level, we have to ask ourselves...what isn't off-limits to satiating our need for entertainment? Rape/Torture games? Gladiator battles? Televised public executions?

I don't want to be misunderstood. I used to have an old NOFX vinyl entitled The P.M.R.C can suck on this! , and have been ready for the revolution for years, but on some level, I cannot help but ask myself....is there a line?

Suffice it so say, on the one hand, I truly am for people standing up and saying this is not the way we want to be doing things, and actually do somthing to stop it.(i.e., censorship), but that is just about the only "good" and usually minority aspect of censorship in general.

The other effects of censorship are more subversive and wholly more oppressive in nature. Which makes censorship in general, a "bad" thing.

But I still can't dismiss the fact that we humans need to evaluate just exactly what we wish to do in this universe, long-term. And perhaps also evaluate that which is not conducive to achieving said goals. Which makes the idea of censorship slightly less objectionable.

Well honestly this game is definetly not the problem nor is media. It's religious beliefs and morals that portay said games in a bad light. We should all forget religion(i am an atheist btw) and come together to improve our world. It is one thing to have a belief but to use it against other's is ridiculous and completely against what their own religion stands for...

If all shooters should be rated AO, then why not WW documentaries?
Said documentaries have a point! point being to show the atrocities that were committed by humans to humans to hopefully avoid anything similar to this happening again. Though its obviously not working to well as is obvious by the current war we've enbroiled ourselves in.

The problem is not with the games or the game makers but with the parent's and the retailers. Retailers are oh too happy to sell a game to anyone at any age as there is absolutely no punishment for them if they do. The ratings system is a joke, do I think there should be a real and working ratings system? absolutely I think that a child should be playing an age appropriate game. Parent's are the other problem here, because for the retailers that do have a concience in what they sell to a child is simply bypassed by the ignorant moron of a parent that most people are who oh too willingly goes out an buys little Johnny the most profane, graphic, and digusting game on the market simply because it keeps little Johnny quiet so they can continue to ignore him like most parent's do these days, Video games have simply replaced the T.V. as the inexpensive babysitter for these idiot SUV driving suburbanites that dont care about there children or the people they will grow up to be simple as that.
