Obviously doing something stupid: Overclocking = slower computer?!?!

Thread Starter
So I have a Pentium D 805, supposedly fantastic for overclocking, and several guides say that the thing clocks to 190 mhz with great stability. So, I try to overclock my computer as well...and well...it's...odd. It should be noted that the computer runs fine without overclocking, so it's definitely that that is causing the problems.

The pentium D normally runs at 133mhz without overclocking. I can take it up to 140mhz and it goes up to about 2.8ghz speed (originally 2.66), but BSOD's in windows. On the other hand...at about 170 mhz, the clock is very slow, something like 2.5, and as mhz goes up from there, clock speed goes up with it. At about 200mhz, it becomes 2.66 again. Am I supposed to exceed 200 without changing voltage and thats why?

I should mention I have a ECS PT890T-A motherboard, and ram: OCZ DDR2800 PC6400 2x 1gb CL 5-5-5-12. My motherboard also does not support ram above 533 mhz, so it's being slowed down to that.

Is it just the cheap ECS motherboard to blame, or am I doing something *really* stupid?

overclocking is quite dependant on the motherboard, and that is not a good motherboard for overclocking if I'm not mistaken.

Also, look at this thread. It might help.

Have the same CPU what is your vcore I would get into BIOS and adjust it to the stock voltage and set PCI to 33 and PCI-E to 100 MHz. Check my thread out it should help alot for you.

EDIT:Most likely is the motherboard
