Sound card not detected?

Thread Starter
Last night i decided to reinstall windows XP and after doing so, I lost sound. I don't know whats going on, I tried installing nearly everything that was recomended to fix the problem, but it didnt fix it. Everytime I try installing the realtek audio, at the end of installation process it tells me "Microsoft Bus Driver should be loaded before installing Realtek DH Sound." I don't get it, untill now everything was working perfectly I never had problems with it. Any thoughts?

You installed your chipset drivers, then the lastest audio drivers and you have onboard sound enabled in the bios?

What does it say in your device manager under "sound, video and game controllers"?

Yes, I installed chipset drivers and i chcecked sound in bios and it was on "auto" (only other option was "disable").

In device manager it has the following:
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Video Codecs

Do you have Realtek HD Audio?

If so, there was a hotfix I had to download to get the HD Audio to work in Windows. I had to uninstall service pack 2, uninstall sound drivers, install the hotfix, reinstall service pack 2, then reinstall the audio drivers (I think that's the order I did it in)

Also, make sure the jumper on your motherboard for the front port audio is still in its normal position.

I'm pretty sure the jumper is fine, this happened after a windows reinstall, and I haven't really touched the inside of the case in a while. Where can I get the hotfix?

I think this is probably the hotfix. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

That hotfix fixed my recording problem with any recording device. It wouldn't detect/record any sounds before I installed the hotfix.
