I need help again with OCing from the people of overclock.net! Pentium 4 3GHz SL6WU

Ok this is the CPU I am getting http://processorfinder.intel.com/det...px?sSpec=SL6WU I decided to get northwood because I am hoping that it will better than my 3.2 Prescott which now is resting in pieces.. or actually is resting in the ocean. Could think of it in the dumps. It worked for me for a long time and I played with it great games like Gothic 1 and 2, Fable, Baldurs Gate 2, Red alert 2 and generally worked a lot for meh. *Looks at the 2 dvd cases with 120 dvd each filled with anime and all the other cases with games and etc* T.T Anyway this time like I said I got a northwood. I got a little familiar with OCing after Nasgul gave me a guide to OC my Pentium D.

Now I do not really care if I will OC it a lot since its my second rig and I just use it to download things. I have 2 nude dimms and both are different. Soon all 4 dimms will be full (4 512 dimms at 400fsb) will be different. I bought some copper heatsinks. Btw is it better to mount the 3rd dimm (if paypal lets me pay the seller) and make the RAMs run on single channel or leave it until I get the 4th dimm and run it on dual channel? Also I have 4 syringes of MX-1. Can I use that on the CPU or I should buy AS5? Also should I apply it on the center of the cpu ihs or just as usual cover the ihs with the MX-1. The specs of the PC is on my sig.

I can't think of any more info to add here. Well I hope someone will help me ^^

Run dual channel till you get the forth. Don't add the third stick yet.

AS5 is better, but either will do O.K. Usually, and especially with AS5 you don't need much. Put a BB size dot in the middle of the CPU and don't spread it. Just clamp the CPU down and give a small twist right and a small twist left.

Thanks a lot for the answer primer. Ok I wil go for AS5 and the dot method. When you say BB what you mean?

Don't get AS5 if you already have MX-1, it's basically a waste of money - from what I've read the MX-5 is better than AS5 but PR1M3R could be right, MX-1 is good enough with a Scythe ninja, you should be able to overclock that like a madman

Well in different tests I did MX-1 beats AS5 ( tested for 1 week each ) but I read in an article that AS5 takes around 6 weeks to dry and get the best performance so I really can;t say which is the best.

Oh so you already have AS5? I'd just leave the MX-1 anyways, but whatever you want

No i need to buy it I do not have any, the shop is like 20 mins away (its 5 am here) anyway the CPU was shipped yesterday so I will need to wait a few days. I started this topic cause I know this is an old CPU so I thought it would be hard to find help fast.
