Manhunt can't be released because of AO Rating

"Games made for Nintendo systems enjoy a broad variety of styles, genres and ratings. These are some of the reasons our Wii and Nintendo DS systems appeal to such a broad range of people. But as with books, television and movies, different content is meant for different audiences. That's why the ESRB provides ratings to help consumers understand the content of a game before they purchase it," the company said in a press statement. "As stated on Nintendo.com, Nintendo does not allow any AO-rated content on its systems."

There have been a couple options thrown on the table for where Rockstar Games and parent company Take-Two Interactive could go next with Manhunt 2. They can either:
Retain the AO rating and sell in the retailers that'll support it
Modify the content and/or negotiate with ESRB to lower the rating
Cancel the game outright
You can strike out the first option, however, unless Rockstar pushes forward with a PC-only release, as Sony Computer Entertainment America and Nintendo of America have told various publications (even mentioned on the latter's own website) their policies forbid the licensing of Adults Only-rated titles on their platforms. If the AO rating sticks, it cannot be officially licensed for Wii, PlayStation 2 or PSP, creating a ban far more restrictive than not showing up on the shelves of Wal-Mart.

To date, Rockstar hasn't announced a PC version of Manhunt 2 -- though the original did eventually show on the platform -- leaving them with limited bargaining room.
Nintendo's Official Website says

*Please note that Nintendo does not sell or license games that carry the ESRB rating "AO" (Adults Only).

That is one big F from me dangit, i just preordered it a few hours ago too....

If they can release Postal 2 and Gears of War then they can release this damnit!!!!

I think Rockstar should just cover their behind and just use the AO rating.

Well I hope they do not back down and "filter" the content!

It is impossible to legally release the games for sale because of the AO rating....it won't see any stores shelves unless they bribe the ESRB or "censor" the death" scenes which would completely ruin the games integrity and artistic value, basically making the game worthless. Think of it as taking customization out of Need For Speed....it basically makes it exactly the same as every other crappy racer out there since the only reason it is good is because of the options...

So why does the AO rating exist. So basically normal stores like CC or BB can not carry it? I really want to play a game like this, hopefully they do not scrap it.

Hmm, this is kinda a hard one for me. I think they should tone down the violence a little bit. Just enough so they can scrape by with a mature rating. Bribery is wrong, and theres no wrong they'll cancel a game they're so close to releasing.

I wonder if they implemented a Steam type system, can they then distribute the game? Of course, there is still the whole issue of Sony + Nintendo not wanting to support AO games on their consoles, so a PC option would be the only solution.
Why won't they go for a PC port again? Sounds silly if you ask me. The PC platform has always been ideal for these type of games; the console world just has too many restrictions.

There is no way this game can be worse than the original. It looks the same but has a different story. The only difference would be the Wii version's controls where you actually make the killings moves...that's kinda sadistic but otherwise there is no reason for it to be more than an M rating outside of pressure from outside sources almost going as far as threatning them to give it the AO rating....

Hey Melcar, This is really offtopic but, what does the spanish part of your sig say? I think its "Don't tell me what you know, tell me what ------------------"

Whats the end part?

Ontopic: This is bad for them, they have to deal with this and the fact that take-two is losing money fast.
