Easy way is to make sure they are on the same workgroup. (Change via control panel, network connections, ect...). Make sure your network is secured so intruders can't get in, and right click on the folder wanted to be shared, and click the sharing tab. Select permissions and you should be able to access files easily.

Both of them are in the same workgroup (MSHOME)
PC name is Icy-com;laptop name is Icy-lappy
When I view workgroup computers in my PC it just shows my computer's name only(Icy-com)
While when I view workgroup computers in my laptop it shows both my computer and laptop's names.(Icy-com and Icy-lappy)
But when i try to explore Icy-com it shows
"
\\\\Icy-com is not accessible. You might not have permission to use the network resource. Contact the admin of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

The network path was not found

If you are still looking for help go to the control panel and open up network setup wizard and follow the instructions. You will need to do it with both machines and as you will see that it will ask you if this computer connects directly to the internet or through another and stuff like that, once this is all completed properly it should work fine. If "My Network Places" is not showing up in your start menu you will need to right click the bottom task bar, click properties, click start menu, click customize, click advanced and scroll down in the start menu items and check the box beside "My Network Places" and then click ok and then apply and now it will show up in your start menu. When you now click on your network places any files and folders that you have set to share between users will automatically show up in the window. Have fun!

Zzz..I choose the option 'both computer connects to a network hub' and I was able to share files for a few hours before getting disconnected again..
