Power Problem

Thread Starter
I am having a weird problem. I boot my computer and everything loads fine. The problem is that when I go to launch any program is doesn't seem to do anything. I checked task manager and it shows that nothing else is using the cpu. If you leave it for a few minutes it will then launch the program. Once that happens all the other programs open as they should. What's also odd it that I can open the My Computer folder and look around there without any problem.

Now what does this have to do with the power you might ask. Well I will tell you. I just installed a new sata dvd-rw drive in my computer. I now have two dvd drives. As I was lacking a spare molex connector I took the one that was in my old dvd drive, stuck a molex splitter on it and pluged in both my drives. (One of the drives uses a sata adapter.) This was when the above mentioned problem started. I have tried both drives by themselves and they work without a problem. Its only when I plug both of them in at the same time that I get a problem.

What exactly is happening here? I thing I must be trying to get to much power out of the one plug. Any help trying to get both drives working together would be greatly appreciated.

Thats not as easy as it seems. I know it is 400 watt but as for who made it I have know idea. There is a logo on the side which is just to T's but I don't think that means thermal take.

If you are drawing to much load on a rail that powers the HDD it will have adverse effects on the HDD and with time damage it!
Low voltage to a motor, like in the HDD, likens to slowly starving someone to death!
Get a better PS!

I am new at this so can you please explain what exactly is a rail. I have heard having 4 rails makes for a very good PSU. Does it?

Rails... segmented out put power sources.
Multirail is not always the best... how do you know what wires go to what rails and whether you have overloaded one?
For your system, I'd recommend a 650W single rail!
I have one of each of the below now....

Thanks for the advice man and those are some great PSU's. I really like the customization options. One small problem though, I live in the land downunder (Australia) and don't really want to pay a whole bunch for shipping. Here is a site that I usually buy my pc stuff from. Could you please pick a PSU from there. http://www.pccasegear.com/category15_1.htm
