C-XMS PC3200 C2 Stuck @ CAS2.5

Hey!
(Corsair XMS PC3200 C2 2x512MB dual channel kit)

Lately I have been messing around with my memory- trying to get the most bandwidth out of it. I made some good and bad discoveries.

After removing 2 sticks of ram from my computer, I was able to boost my memory bandwidth from 2.1GB/s to 4.2GB/s (running the above dual channel kit) @ 2.5-3-3-8 2T! (Sandra benchmark)

I said "Hey, impressive, let me drop that down to 2-3-3-8 in my BIOS and see what kind of difference it makes." (Sandra reports only 66% bandwidth efficiency? )

So I reboot and head into the bios and lower the CAS to 2, save and exit, reboot, load windows, and BAM... All of the sudden i'm getting messages saying a registry key had to be recovered, and that it was recovered succesfully, then another BAM... BLUESOD.

(I'd like to add that the other settings in the bios besides CAS are set to "Auto" because i'm not sure which ones are "RAS to CAS" and "RAS Precharge.")

I guess my questions are,
1. Why can't I run at CAS 2?
2. Am I missing something here? Something tells me i'm not coming at this from the right angle.
3. If, for whatever reason, I can't run CL2, how can I maximize my memory bandwidth(i'm thinking I should be able to get up to 6.0GB/s+)?

My current system specs are:

Windows XP SP2
ASUS A8V 0226 AMI Bios
AMD X2 4200+ @ 2.2Ghz (200x11) 512x2 L2 cache Socket 939
Corsair XMS PC3200 C2 2x512MB dual channel kit
(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145450)
ATI Radeon X850XTPE 256MB AGP
450W Antec PSU

Thanks for your time!

Try giving the sticks 2.9v.

On my A8V i cannot raise ram voltage above 2.8, so i tried 2.8 with no luck.

I disabled CR2 and actually boosted my bandwidth to 5.1GB/s with 2.5-3-3-6 CR1 w/ 80% efficiency! Now, if I can only get at least another 15% I will be happy!

I think 2-3-3-6 could give me that boost, but i'm still not sure why my computer bluesod when I run CAS 2? 2.5 runs like a charm!

thanks again

BIG EDIT

I think i just found the answer to my problem on the Corsair forum.

"DDR1
__ = Cass 3-3-3-8 or the defined JEDEC values for the specific speed grade!
C2 = Cass 2-3-3-6 & Cass 2.5-3-3-6 On AMD Platform.
LL = Cass 2-3-2-6
XL = Cass 2-2-2-5"

I guess this is saying that with an intel cpu my ram would run 2-3-3-6. I guess the age old question still stands, WHY?

Benchmarks with memory aren't real world. Take the T1 vs T2 setting, it may show a disparity of as much as 30% where in the real world it only has about a 3-5% effect.

You are probably right there, but still, improvement is improvement. I'm simply trying to understand and get the most out of my RAM.
