Athlon X2 3800+ Toledo O/C problems. Help Please. - Page 2

Here's another possibility, albeit a long shot. Most AMD 939's don't seem to like to have all 4 DIMM slots occupied ( the exception is the SAN DIEGO core ) . Have you tried removing the 2x 512 sticks?

just kinda makes me angry, i heard toledo was supposed to be a better for OC then the manchester. Im running very cool temps, you think there is some way i can burn it in to run at lower voltages at higher clockrates??

Ya i removed both the 512 sticks, that is what got me from 2.77 to 2.81 GHZ stable, but the cpu should be able to go higher if i lower the ram divider.

BTW could it be my PSU? i have 4HD's 2DVD burners, 7 case fans 1 extra fan on GPU and a power hogging 7800GT

Not nessessarily, only the CCBBE stepping CPU can get higher than 2.8GHz.

I doubt it is your PSU. I also run 4 HDDs, 1 DVD/RW, >7 case fans, 8800GTS (more power hungry) and an overclocked CPU @ 2.8GHz only using a 520w 28A PSU.

Hey, Newbie clocker here, hoping to glean some wisdom

Im looking to overclock a 3800+ as well, but not sure if its a Toledo or a Windsor - afaik the difference is DDR/DDR2 ??

ALSO, this is for my mum, it's not for gaming, its just to squeeze some extra value out of a cheap chip. So...

My aim is to get to 2.4 or 2.5 Ghz, without changing PSU or cooling. Repeat, STOCK power and cooling. Can it be done??

Also, no video card, just onboard video - but im assuming that the onboard video can handle upping the FSB to 240 or 250 Mhz??

The deal i'm looking at comes with:
ASUS M2N8-VMX (nForce405)
1GB Kingston DDR2 667Mhz
X2 3800+ on AM2 socket - - if the ram is DDR2, can i assume its a Winsdor?

Thanks for all you help guys and gals - this is a good cause: it's for Mum...

Well...

My sig rig now has an LCB9E 0652WPMW running 2.8GHz with sub-stock VCore...

Once ambients get lower, I'll pushing this puppy harder.

Maybe even a run for 3.0..? (Actually, I never had this ambition. But I'm curious whether or not this chip has it in her to do it.)

sounds like that is also a good stepping.

What i found with mine was that the jump from 2.8GHz to 3.0GHz+ took a great deal of VCore (1.55v) from stock (1.8GHz) to 2.8GHz needed no vcore adjustment.

Each CPU is different but it is nice to hear how others are getting on with their overclocks

Unfortunately, no.

The stepping information is printed on the IHS, so you do have to remove and reseat your HSF.

Hope this helps!

Have you turned the voltage up on the cpu and memory and thats it? if you haven't bump the voltage up on the northbridge. it's the one right beneath the cpu voltage (i have the same mobo) it may help you get a little higher oc. what is your ram timings btw you might want to loosen them up a little.
