Hello everyone.
I have a Seagate Barracuda IDE 80GB 7200rpm hard disc and planning to buy Seagate Barracuda SATA 320GB 7200rpm.

1.Will it still be useful to use them together , combine them somehow or I should just trash the 80GB one?

2.Will the 320GB SATA work slower than the 80GB IDE?

3.If it is still useful to use both of them... tell me on which one should I install my OS so it will run without lag.. or it doesn't matter?

4. If u have any other suggestions concerning hard discs, or if I should buy something better & faster, please state.

1. use both. the 80GB would make a good storage drive for media like music and video.

2. the 80GB IDE drive will be quite a bit slower than the SATA drive.

3. I would use the SATA drive for your OS.

4. the 320GB drives are very good. make sure you get the Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 not .9 versions since the newer revision have perpendicular writing technology which speeds up the performance of the drives considerably

Hope that answers your questions

Check your new SATA HDD manual to see if you need to remove a jumper on the backside to activate SATA2 speeds. Also, on your motherboard, you should plug the SATA drive into the purple SATA port.

The simple answer is no

Currently the 7200.10 lead the market in performance. The only other contenders I can think of are the Western Digital Caviar SE16 drives and the Hitachi 7K1000 drives.

Personally I would go for the 7200.10 drive
