I have but it was on purpose. Damn Intel CPU's. I have run AMD K6 and K7 Slot A's with no HSF and they dont overheat or reboot the comp.

40mhz in just 4 months. I only encoded maybe 20-30 DVDs. So that's a pretty fast degradation to me.

I got my Athlon XP 2500+ to almost 90C one time, but only for about 10 seconds. (Poorly seated cooler). Still works great, and runs at 40C-55C.

Not sure how long you'll be able to run that X2 at 72C.... probably not good for it. Personally, I'd lower the OC a little and run it cooler, then sell it for at least a little or leave it for your backup rig.

Sorry for not replying

Glad to see you have got coretemp to work. If they are the temps you are getting I would be concerned.

Thats is def not a healthy temp to be running at for prolonged periods.

The variation in cores is a little high as well. My cores only have a ∆T of 5°C

Please, you READ:

He thought it was damaged because there was a large variation in temps in each of the cores. This happens in over 70% of all dual core chips whether they're made by AMD or Intel, so unless you can call all of them damaged.. I don't think you can for that reason.

Now you're saying they're damaged because the pins were bent. Well, maybe at first, but I also clearly remember the OP saying that he bent them all back. IIRC, the act of fixing removes said damage, therefore, chip=/=damaged

Just so we're all clear here,

The CPU was in a envelope from FEdex. The idiots managed to knock aroudn the envelope so much that the hard plastic chip container poped open and then the chip fell into the envelope loose.

From there, all the pins were smashed in different directions, and it's possible the IHS was partially dislodged as well.

I was able to straighten the pins (horrible, horrible experience), but I still had to "Force" it into my mobo.

So how do I go about popping off the ihs?

After I do that, can I just apply AS5 directly to the cores and directly screw on my Blue Orb?

Thanks guys!

Well, my C2D ran about 18h straight at 82c. That was over 5 months ago and to this day its still working perfectly.

My typhoon came loose that night so it was barely making contact with the IHS. Then add that to SMP folding and there I had it, I went to bed, went to school came home and looked at TAT. I almost died.

Same happened to me. Mine was at 86C when i caught it. Luckily I caught it in less than 30 minutes. Talk about scary. But it hasnt seemed to hurt my Opty 165.
