orrrrrrr.... you could buy from third party places. ive never had a problem with them.

ink is like $3-5/cartidge. My canon uses the individual tanks so thats like $25 for the set basically.

What you do is you print until it messes up the colors, then you shake it until it prints again!

Shaking helps a lot
they are theives with that and also a lot of printers if you run out of lets say red on the color cartridge won't print ANYTHING anymore. even if you want to print a text only black and white won't print cause your out of ink they say.
only way around it is to replace the color cartridge which sucks, even though the black ink is on a whole different cartridge and has lots of ink left. hell right now I can't use my printer cause even though the black cartridge is BRAND NEW the color is "out"

even if you refill the cartridge that doesn't always work either unless you can fool the printer into thinking it is a different cartridge.a lot of them have a form of id and once the printer sees that cartridge and thinks it is out of ink refilling doesn't give it more ink to the printer. again some maybe not all though

I've heard from some techies that printers have a set amount of prints that they will do. Like, it's programmed that it will only print 10,000 pages or whatever and then it'll stop working and you have to get a new one. Is that true?

I don't think so, although it wouldn't surprise me one bit. We have some HP LaserJet 5M's at work. Some have only done 10,000 pages and are a bit worse for ware, but others have done 80,000+ and still going strong.

I would imagine this to be potentially huge in small business environments, where small offices use cheap inkjet devices for simple printing and fax receiving. Usually you don't want to wait until those things run out of ink (nothing like receiving a crucial fax just to have the black ink run out half way), so generally one changes it before it hits empty by looking at the status levels. The HPs we use at work are notorious for this problem. My Lexmarks at home seem to be to most accurate.

I have an HP InkJet Printer, however, if works fine because I only print 3-5 pages reports (in black ink) with it. All of my essays that are due need to be in size 12 font, Times New Roman, and Black Ink anyway, so, I'm happy with mine. It's interesting, though, HP got in a lot of trouble because their Ink wouldn't work after a period of time being shelved.

Maybe I'm the only one who does this, but i print until its bone dry, then void the warranty by manually refilling it with china made printer ink. I feel its much worth than buying new ink cartridges. And if my printer spoils, i can always get a new one. My whole family uses the printer. Haha.
