Nvidia Vista drivers slow?

Thread Starter
I've got vista home prem x64, installed nvidia graphics drivers version 158.24, and still see a noticeable drop in frame rates in my games as opposed to XP x32. I also cannot find the nvidia control panel. Should I be able to access the control panel? cos i cant....

Are the nvidia vista drivers slow cos they're early in development, or have they not installed right....

You will notice a performance drop in vista. and vista 64-bit is only for ultimate as i understood it?(i have ultimate 64 on my machine). Right now vista drivers are still young and a performance decrease is to be expected. You will have to download Ntune if you want all your control panel options.

I don't see why the 64 bit drivers would be just for ultimate, that would be a bit stupid.

Yeah, so how long do people reckon it'll take for nvidia to start churning out some proper, higher performing drivers? I feel like the power of my graphs card is severely reduced with these drivers.

I've got the same problem...
I switched back to Vista because I thought the drivers would support SLI, I was wrong.

They do, you have to download 158.45 for SLI support. It works pretty great, though there is of course a lot of headroom for improvement. Anything prior to this does not have SLI support.

Appreciate the response. I have tried all of the most recent drivers available from guru3d including whql drivers and none of them work. Windows update also tries to install a driver but that is no good either.

Perhaps the drivers work, but they just do not work at all with my system-- what will happen is that during install my screen will lose signal, and after reboot it still gets no signal.

^^ in this thread it seems a few people are experiencing the same problem.

The only solution for now was to reboot into safe mode and go back to the drivers that came with Vista. I wish I would've looked on here rather than have to go through that whole mess. xD
Anyways there are new beta drivers released yesterday for vista x64, I will try them and report back.

You can't run any of the beta drivers, because the beta drivers are only designed for 8800GTS/GTX cards. I hate it when owners of these cards always recommend the beta drivers to people with older nvidia cards

I'm using the 158.24 drivers and the only performance decrease i have seen is that i still cannot OC my card.

However my card performs like normal

The problem is the cards were not designed for Vista so you will have to wait for some drivers that are fully compatible with Vista. However this may never happen as they seem to be concentrating on the 8800 drivers alot more
