Recommend Audi some 1066+ Ram!

Thread Starter
I'm on NewEgg about to order another p35 board and memory.

I need to figure this out:

Right now I have 4gb of G.Skill 800 HZ's. I know a lot of people will tell me to keep them instead of going to say 1066 or higher, but for Overclocking-- when looking for 100% OC's over stock-- wouldn't it be a safer, securer way to go starting out with ram that's clocked higher at stock instead of OC'ing to match?

For instance: Q6600 is at 2.4ghz right now. I'd like to run 3.4 - 3.6. At this point, would it not benefit me to look into 1066 to be sure that Ram isn't holding me back?

Second Instance: QX6850 coming up. Coolaler gets 4.2ghz (I don't think I'll get that but it's an example.) on this CPU. So, wouldn't starting out with 1066 fair better than tring to force the 800 to run at say 1200? Which isn't guaranteed because I sure as heck can't get mines up there no matter what I do.

Second question is: Is it merely a rumor that 4 sticks of ram makes OCing harder than with say 2 x 2gb sticks of ram? I'd need to know this as well, as I'd like to invest in the right ram at the moment if I have a choice while ordering.

Thanks in advance peoples.

Go for the 1066 if you are faced with a situation like you stated above. And the "rumor" is true, usually more for AMD though. Here is why:

The AMD chips have onboard memory controllers, ie. More ram to control=more voltage and heat to get stable O.C.'s.

With Intel it puts that stress on the chipset. But same principal basically.

Thanks!!

Well now all I need to know is what's a good investment for 1066+ Ram in 2gb x 2 or 4 x 1gb sticks.

i think you should get Patriot PC2 8500 ram, it comes stock at 1066 Mhz with eased latency 5-5-5-9 at 2.3 volts, i have the 2 Gb Kit and it rocks, i currently have my Patriots clocked at 1200 Mhz with stock timings and volts... (my E6600 running at 3.6Ghz, 400x9 Fsb)
i paid $500 Canadian for the kit, and it is now in or around the $200 USD price range. i havent a single problem with this kit, and would recomend it to anyone interested in overclocking.

here is a review and some prices for ya:
