Now that sounds like someone who has never run Vista 64, because a HUGE majority of people that have run that OS (myself included), will tell you the exact opposite.
You've got yourself a new system, so here's what ya do. Check online and see if there are current 64 bit drivers for all of your hardware. If there is, you're good to go. 64-Bit Vista is fine.
Does it use a lot of RAM? Sure, it's a beefy OS. But it also caches the RAM and makes more efficient use out of it.
