Need very small case

Thread Starter
I wanna build a [dedicated] linuxbox. I need it very small. I never thought I'd build a computer so small but this will be the one. I have a few in mind from NewEgg.
Due to the small case, this won't be a very powerful machine. GFX wise at least. So onboard everything because the case is probably going to be a desktop, it might save space that way IDK.

I wanna go with Intel. I prefer Asus. Can someone recommend a easily compatible motherboard with LINUX?

Wanna go about as small as you can? Check out the DSL linux box.
http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/store/Mini_ITX_Systems

Or you can go with nano-ITX once it comes out.
http://www.via.com.tw/en/products/ma...erboard_id=470
But you would probably have to build your own stuff to go with that. I don't know if they make nano-itx cases.

And motherboards shouldn't really have trouble with linux, it's the peripherals that have compatibility issues.
The thermaltake lanbox is a pretty small case. And it still fits other stuff in it. normal sized stuff.

I just built a mATX comp. with the Ultra Microfly. Its a great value and its really easy to put together. Check out the link in my sig.

Performance PCs have them for $59.99

Whats great about the Microfly too is that it can accommodate a full size atx psu as well as regular dvd drives. Also in their design the psu isn't directly over the cpu.

I looked at that but the last Ultra I owned was flimsy and loud--what is the build like on that one--is it really thin--do the panels resonate and make sound?

No not at all, they lock in very well. Its probably one of the quietest computers I've ever built especially with two SilenX's. Those fans work really well in the case vs the stock 80mm and 120mm. The idle temp for my X2 3800+ is 28c and the load is about 34c. I'd say the only problem with it is that if you have the temp probe too close to a cfl inverter then the probe doesn't work.

So why not?

A really good mainboard is the VIA VT310-DP with 2 CPUs on it.

On the other hand there is the VIA VB6002 with socket 479 for Pentium M (a bit to search to get a good one).

Have a look here:
http://www.casetronic.com/Products/P...e-Case-ITX.asp

Most of the cases allow HDD, DVD Drive and 1 PCI Card beside the ITX.
Also the VIA CPUs are very power saving and need no fan (or only a silent one).

[EDIT]
A Friend of me send me this link, one of the smallest Cases for mini-ITX

http://www.epiacenter.com/modules.ph...howpage&pid=66

[/EDIT]

If you don't like the VIA mini-ITX models does mean:
a: you want it even smaller but also very slow (<1 GHz)
b: you want it really fast but bigger and louder (cooling problem)
