The impact of tubing sizes -
what compression fittings would you reccomend?

The ones you linked would work but you can find them cheaper then that...In the thread I linked you to they give a part number for compression fittings at McMaster-Carr which would probably be the cheapest place to find them...

I'm sticking with 1/2" barbs myself....I like high flow and high head loops....

A very good write up by Cathar no Doubt, that being said bigger is still better as it relates to tubing.

I actually havent ordered my tops from petra yet. Would you get the d-tek or Ek barbs? I thought the dangerden high flow ones where the best. If i go to 1/2 I am sure going to miss my zalman flow indicator.

I think the EK barbs look better and would work good with zip-ties but I like to use automotive worm clamps so I would get the D-Tek...

That Zalman flow-meter is really restrictive anyway your better off with-out it...
