*Fixed* This works for all the Battle For Middle Earth games!, "My The Lord of the Rings, The Rise of the Witch-king Files".
After trying everything humanly possible, I followed the advice of r3lacks at the EA forums. He recommended copying files from another computer running the game, C:\\documents and settings\\USER NAME\\application data (hidden)\\my battle for middle earth ii files. On my sig system, this folder was empty. So I copied the files from my A64 system, opened up the options.ini file, and replaced the resolution of 1024 x 768 with my native resolution of 1680 x 1050, then copied the files to my sig computer. After that, the game started right up!
Attached is the Options.ini file. You can copy this to the specified folder as well as create a folder titled "Maps". Good Luck!
For XP, copy the files to C:\\documents and settings\\USER NAME\\application data (hidden)
edit: For Vista, copy the files to C:\\Users\\USER NAME\\AppData (hidden)\\Roaming
Note: After installing the updates for Battle for Middle Earth, you will have to copy the second ini file to the same location. I had to install these games and their updates on a Opty 170 system to get these. But I have checked and they all work.
Original:
I just purchased "The Battle for Middle Earth II". After installing the game, the latest 1.06 patch, and c++ redistribution software, I get the following runtime error: Program:...tronic Arts\\The Battle for Middle-Earth (tm) II\\game.dat after the splash screen. I have a fresh copy of Windows XP with SP2 and all updates installed. Is there a compatability with conroes and/or 8800s?
Thanks
