well the small pin cable connector on the corner of the ide drive is used for digital signal interface. if you have a good sound card you should have a 4 pin connector on the sound card. you can connect via digital from your ide drive to your sound card, but most people don't.

the sound is better via digital because of no interference like analog, well some people can't tell the difference.
