If i was going to chose a processor specifically for folding, regardless of price, what one is the best?

I would say a QX6800 4x 2.93GHz cores.

Or the Xeon equivalent. higher the clock speed the better.

Dual quadcore Xeons on a server mobo would be ideal. The one in your sig rig would be perfect for folding.

The quad cores intel processors are top dog at the moment. The drawback of the Dual Processor Quad Core servers, is the ability to overclock the boards that run them. Overclocking can add a lot to you production. Also keep in mind that the OS you are running will have a signifigant impact as well.

If you do have the Dual Quad Xeon Clovertowns, how overclockable is the system they are in?

The one in my sig is busy supporting thousands of people.. and I'll only have my old one for 6 more days. After that I'll be reduced to folding on 2 p4 computers. I'll see if I can free up some cpu power on my server during the night and get in some folding on there.
