4gb DDR2 - 4 sticks or 2? Any difference?

Hi

I have a 2gb pair of A-Data Vitesta 1000+ running at 1.1Ghz and need to upgrade to 4gb total on my P5B Deluxe? Is it OK to buy another identical pair and add these so I have 4 sticks in total. What I'm asking is: is it a myth that 2 sticks is better than 4 sticks?

On Intel, It won't matter, if you use 4 DIMM's.

If you are on AMD it can screw up because of the memory controller

So on your current rig it will be fine

Listen to him, he is 100% right

However you need a 64bit OS to utilise all 4GB so make sure you have it

EDIT: In your system specs it says you only have 32bit XP

Sorry but you will not be able to use all 4GB, it is limited to about 3GB of RAM i am afraid.

Yes x86(32 Bit) Windows only does 3.5Gb.

You will need a 64 bit OS to utilize all the RAM.

Just to let you know ,, it is a lot harder to OC 4GB ,, especially when you try to go past 1000MHZ ,, also with 4X1GB you are limited by the speed of the two slower sticks
