why home basic? Its like xp home but alot more crap. If your going to get vista get home premium or business. also if that cpu is am2 get a Brisbane instead. Also def go with gskill alot cheaper and that sound card is a bit pricey, if your not a huge audio file just go for a $40-$50 creative sound card

I heard the Sondigo Inferno uses the same chip as the Bluegears b-Inspirer. You'll save a bit of money going with the Sondigo instead.

Unless you are really picky about your sound I say you nix the sound card and use the money elsewhere. The benefit isn't that fantastic to me, but that's me. My 2 cents.

if you are a huge overclocker, then the AC FP 64 may not be enough for you.
just one for the future.
G.Skill is definatly the way to go. i agree with those guys.

I don't know a great deal about AMD CPUs, but I'd agree with the consensus so far regarding the sound card and OS. If you're going with a budget build, I'd go for a cheaper sound card, or just use on-board sound and upgrade to a decent sound card later on. Years ago on-board really was quiet awful, but it's generally pretty tolerable these days for all kinds of audio.

As for the OS. I wouldn't recommend for anybody to buy Vista at all atm, regardless of what version it is. There just isn't sufficient benefit to moving to Vista currently and you'll be waiting months before there's any real justification for it imo. If you must go Vista now (XP Home is perfectly fine imo) then try to go for a retail home premium version of it. The retail home premium is probably the best value for money in the long term atm. The basic version is a fairly impotent, backward, village idiot version of the Vista family imo. I guess it's OK, but if you're buying Vista, you're going to want the "Vista experience" and you don't quiet get that in Basic.

Either drop the soundcard altogether and aim for Vista Home Premium Retail, or go with a less expensive soundcard and rely on trusty (and certainly not out of the game, yet) XP as your OS.

Otherwise, your proposed system looks like a good, well-balanced budget build. You should be be pleased once you have it all together .

Highly-Annoyed
