OK I am replacing my 965 Intel mobo with a gigabyte GA-P35 board, I am ready to go with the install but I am worried about Microsoft. Basically are the going to give me the blues? Am I going to have to reinstall (which I don't want to) vista or is there a way around this?

I figured that for you guys (or girls) that have done this a dozen times that this Question would be a piece of cake.

Yes, because the motherboard has a different chipset. It probably will work, but it will give you major issues, instability and/or sub-par performance.

Couldn't he just un/reinstall chipset drivers?

Beside that, the only problem I thought of was having to reactive windows.

You can uninstall every driver you currently have on there for your current mobo and switch it over. Then reinstall the new drivers.

I switched mine from 965chipset to 35 and it worked (kindof) but I didnt change anything just went straight over. It worked but barley pretty much vista wigged out. I finally got it to settle down and changed the drivers but it was still wigged out.

I eventually just reinstalled it and now it is all good again.

Thanks for the advice. That was what I was afraid of. Wish me luck. The OS came preinstalled and the only thing that I have is a back up and recovery dvd. lol

Dude if its just a recovery disk it wont work, it has to be a actual full os installation disk. Just for the heads up.

Seeing as you are replaceing the motherboard on a pre-built machine the OEM lisence would apply and you would need to purchase a new operateing system lisence. I suggest anyone concerned with the matter read's BFRD's OEM Clarrification.

If its preinstalled, you probably will have to buy a new key for Windows, unless it is a 2 computer license or something...
