e6400 @ 3.5ghz vs. e6400 @ 2.13ghz --> same temps?

post #1 of 6
Thread Starter
So I recently managed to get my E6400 orthos stable at 3.5ghz with a bios-set VCORE of 1.41v's. A pretty good temp/clock/Vcore compromise if you ask me. The actual volts, as reported by CPUz are something like 1.36v's or so ...

...

...

Anyway ... earlier today, since I was leaving the house with a fairly critical system backup in process and since I didn't want to take the chance of things crapping out in the middle of it ... I used Clockgen to downgrade my overclock to stock settings ... BUT with the same volts ...

After work, when I got home, I checked my temp logs and what I found was that the temps were about the same ...

Is that wierd or what?

3.5ghz w/ 1.41v's = 37C idle temp
2.13ghz w/ 1.41v's = 36C idle temp

...

So, does VCORE *really* affect temps that much?

I thought my temps would be *drastically* lower once I Clockgen'd down to stock speeds ...

Nope, the voltage makes a big difference. Sometimes i just crank the voltage up until the temps are at the limit at full load, then start raising the FSB.

Clock speed doesn't affect temps, voltage does. Simple as that.

Partially true. Clock your gpu higher without touching the voltage and watch the temp increase.

i think frequency does affect temp or at least on full load

basically, now you know your computer idles at 36-37C when you are at 1.41v's
