7800 GTX vs 8600 GTS - Page 2

Troll indeed....he's the reason we need a neg button. Then again he might be one of those people to abuse it. Anyways, the 8600GTS has my vote.

Here is a Head 2 Head (specs) comparison of the 7800GTX & 8600GTS at GPU Review. No performance tests here, the site doesn't do that sorry. But as you can tell, the Pixel Fill Rate and Memory Bandwidth of the 7800GTX are higher, but the Shader Operations and Texture Fill Rate are far superior on the 8600GTS due to the new architecture.

the 7900 gtx is about the same performance as the 8600 gts so i would imagine the 7800 gtx behind that. 8600 has directx 10. i would get it just because games will be optimized for dx10 soon so might as well be ready.

Yeah there both the same kinda but 8600 GT has DX 10

Yeah, according to the Tom's Hardware Review (posted by Blazin-Asion) of the 8600GTS, the 7900GTX is a close comparison. So I would think the GTS beats the 7800GTX in most cases then.

I'm liking the 8600GTS more and more, good performance reviews combined with the price tag make it seem like a very viable option.

Kinda weird thinking of a 7800GTX as midrange.

It IS, but it's still weird.

I've been thinking of an 8600 around Christmas time. We'll see I guess.

The 8600GTS is faster, uses less power and supports DX10.

for sure with the new drivers and everthing the 8600GTS is coming to a point where you cant compare it to a DX9 card such as the 7900GTX,soo it will be in its own class, when i first got this card when it came out it only got 4900 in 3D mark 06 and now at stock speeds you can hit 5800,i would realy like to see this card a get a better score but in the games you wont even be able to tell the difference.

8600GTS is a better card in my opinion. As others have said, the 8600GTS supports Dx10. Go to you tube and look for a video to show you the difference between Dx9 and Dx10. I was shocked to see the amazing difference between Dx9 and Dx10. At the moment the 8600GTS 512MB is selling for 209$ with a 20$ mail in rebate. I suspect sometime in or after November the 8600GTS 512MB will lower in price. Once this happens you could get another 8600GTS 512MB an SLI it. Two 8600GTS 512MB in Dx10 verses one 7900GTX? I don't think you could even compare them once you SLI it. If you take the consideration of Dx10 alone, you still can't even compare them. Please watch the difference between Dx9 and Dx10.

Now the question is, which motherboard to get

Welcome to Overclock.net!

The 8600gts is pretty strong considering the fact it has 128bit bus.

And you all know CRTs are and will always be better than LCDs. NO native resolution, no native refresh rate, no dead pixels to worry about, no ghosting, no low level blacks....and the list goes on and on and on and on....

Woot another CRT lover.
