Ok my computer is running like crap at the moment. one core is always on max load, system idle processes are using most of it. installing anything takes ages and it laggs the system up so bad that when u play music it gets distorted, slowed down (sounds like crashing). even the mouse laggs up.
Likewise in games..on highest settings it laggs, sounds in messed up and load times are bad. The unusal thing is that 2nd core isnt fully utilised when that happens (it does though get used under heaviest loads)
I have just reinstalled Xp, all drivers came from gigabyte rev3.3
Here are significant things that happened prior to this:
I overclocked to 220 x 9 which ended up with computer not even POSTing.
I set voltages to manual and the my RAM latencies went from 5-5-5... down as far as 3-3-3-9 ..or something like that.
In the bios voltage is 1.35... but in everest and sys tools it showed 2v on the core...
At one stage the fan stopped working and before i realised the CPU temp went well past 60. not for long though

This build is taking me months and its really frustrating having my CPU(or whatever it is) letting up as soon as I get this rig running.
Im lost, I mean it could be anything: HDD,CPU,RAM,MOBO,(which was bough as b-grade)Drivers
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a crappy install of the OS to me

I had the exact same problem when my opty drivers wouldn't install and my chipset drivers screwed up.

Make sure they are all installed correctly, even if this means a re-format of the hdd and doing it all from square 1

Heat-sink/fan not seated properly or faulty ram.

1. Try out the Microsoft Dual Core Patch and see if the other core begins to work.

2. Have you tried running your RAM at default timings? Take a look at my thread, I get performance decrease if I lower any of the values.

3. Microsoft Window's Automatic Updates also have issues on taking up your CPU usage.Though, this is related to svchost.exe. If you want to take a look at one of the solutions, it's worth a try.

4. I would manually turn off Window's Update, restart and then if it still lags, leave it on idle for a while. Sometimes, the update doesn't download up to 100%, it sometimes download 37% of the update and then waits for you to restart to download the others.

Will try ur advise. everything is on stock now. but this pc worked fine last time i puit on the os. i dunno why this time the speed is so bad.
is thee a way to diagnose which component is screwing me? could the ram have been damaged by 3-3-3 latencies?

I doubt your RAM would have been damaged by adjusting latencies.

Run Memtest to see if it is failing.

It seems weird, because i had the exact same symptoms. But aclean re-installfixed it for me. However i did buy a new HDD, but i highlydoubt this is the problem here.

RAM should not die or be damaged by lowering the values of the timings, but by raising the voltage, it would. If you look at the 965 Gigabyte S3/DS3 motherboard models, in the specification section, it says,

Quote:
This product does not support Win9X/ME
Notice: Only DDR2-800 memory supporting JEDEC approved 1.8V operation with timings of 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 is supported on Intel Desktop Boards based on Intel 965 Express Chipsets.
So, with my RAM thread and with that saying, I don't think the Gigabyte S3/DS3 965 model can run 4-4-4 or 3-3-3.
