My reasons for not moving to a quad right now are:

I think these quads are a little bit like the Smithfield generation of Pentium D's. High heat output, using the same idea of sticking 2 processors together. I'd rather stick with the good dual cores than move to the "low end" quad processors. I am just going to wait for the switch to 45nm, then think about buying a quad.

Who else is thinking like this?
Same here. I'm set until they release 45nm full quads and more than 5 sets of DDR3. My next major upgrade will be everything probably when they come out. I'll get DX10 gfx, 45nm quad, DDR3, and a DDR3/45nm mobo. And probably an XFI. I guess i will upgrade almost everything. I'll just buy another case and put my stuff in it for my dad. He can have a gaming rig.

I don't do video editing or enough encoding to justify going quad core. The games I play still aren't coded for use with a multicore system with the exception of a few.

Penryn and X38 will be where my money goes and not toward a chip that I have little use for as of right now.

I'll probably go quad for crysis and alen wake, plus whatever games lay ahead. At $266, I've got nothing to lose.

Ill be going with the Quads when the price drops. The new Penryn cores will cost $1000+ from the way technology prices for new hardware are, and it wont be within my budget (<$300) for about a year, if that. *These are my speculations, I dont know for sure* I see it that I can buy a $266 quad core now, and take the year or so to evaluate the new cores to see if its worth the updrade. I really dont think Barcelona will whip the C2Q, and if it does, it will still be out of my budget. Id rather buy my rig in july, and maybe upgrade it when the prices settle out.
