hey guys. ive been looking at this item for a day or two now, but i dont know which to choose.

http://www.mnpctech.com/spdprtToggle.html

one is a standard on/off and the other is "momentary." they charge an extra 10 bucks for the momentary one and they advertise that it is the one for your main power of the computer and that they modify it in some way, it says it in red. does anyone have one of these or know what they are talking about? what is "momentary"?

The momentary one doesnt click up and down, you flip it up and it turns on the comp then comes down , its better cause you cant accidently turn off your computer.

so does this mean when you flick the switch up, it comes back down, yet the computer stays on?

You need the momentary switch. Just like your actual power switch that you already have, it closes the circuit for a tiny fraction of a second, then your computer is on.

What you said right there is kind of contradictory. Let me re-phrase it. The momentry can only be used as a quick on switch meaning you would have to hold it on the on position to close the switch. The regular you can use for fans and cathodes. I would also check out froogle for something chepaer than the ones you picked out because a piece of metal is not worth twenty bucks.

PS: And Spektrum, thanks for providing the link to MNPCTECH. They have cool stuff, albeit some of it's overpriced.
