The thing I like most about the sub is...It's beneath my desk and monitor and so it works for me as a leg rest to maximize my comfort
Wait what? 1000W?! I thought they were 505.

They are. They're 505 RMS, and 1010 peak power. Really, peak means nothing... Logitech even markets them as 505 watts...sometimes they even just say 500 watts...lol.

Anyways, I would get a receiver and some big old speakers goin, but then I would not be able to afford a sub, and then my frequency response would suffer, and I like the pounding for certain games...

I already have a decently expensive Panasonic surround receiver anyways, but buying 5 speakers and a subwoofer for around 300 bucks? *****...not gonna happen...

I actually wanted Mackie studio monitors, but they're like 800 per speaker...so maybe some other time...

Any more opinions/thoughts?

How about buying just 2 speakers and a sub first and run a 2.1 setup then save up and upgrade to a 5.1 setup?

I have some Z-5500's Very happy with them...the sub pounds...If you play BF2, you will love them loud, because it seriously hurts my ears with them way up...feels like a real war going on, lol. Great controls to get the surround, center and sub right on the dot...dolby setting is good...and they are THX certified...like in most theaters these days. Great for watching movies and listening to music. The only thing i would be wary of is make sure you can actually set them up to be a REAL 5.1...cause unfortunately, I don't have any room behind me to put the 2 back speakers, so all 5 speakers are on my desk, so it isn't really surround, but still pretty cool.

meh. I already got a logitech 2.1 setup...so I wouldn't really need that...

I'm only wanting these cause my dad is buying me a graduation present. It's either these or the Logitech G25. I'm having trouble deciding...

Now that' a hard one... I've been wanting to splurge on the Logitech G25s too, and someday I will, but I have other financial priorities in the meantime... that and my roommate's father-in-law has a racing cage he built up in his "gaming room" that we can hook up a PS2/Xbox to, which for the time being satiates that appetite... GT3/GT4 just aren't the same after racing in that cage, along with the HD plasma 50" screen... but yeah, I feel you... hard one to decide.

Also, with regards to the speaker/amp comment, I forgot how much I spent on my speakers... $200 a pair (four total), plus the receiver/amp (about $50)... and right now I can only use two speakers anyway (small room, that and my amp can't pump out enough for all four to be happy - 200W each, 400W peak)... but when I had my old receiver working, and all four hooked up, it wasn't hard to wake up the neighbors by accident (I seriously didn't think the bass was that loud, especially for how far away their house was). Anyway, enough blabbering... don't let me deter you from the Z5500's...

Well, I don't want to sound full of myself, but I own these speakers as well and let me tell you, these are the best speakers in the price range that you could buy.

I have my machine and xbox 360 hooked up to it and it sounds great. I was once in your position to about these, I was on the fence about whether or not to get it, and trust me they are a great investment.

I see your soundcard is an Audigy, I'm not sure if that has the creative crystalizer, but if it does you will 100% hear the difference in clarity with these speakers, and if you they don't have that feature then upgrade to an X-FI because it is awesome.

Now, I saved the best part for last. My control pod for this beast broke (so I thought), so I sent it back to logitech and the informed me that it wasn't the control pod that broke, but it was the sub. So they sent me an entirely new set, in the box, everything for free, I paid nothing. So all I'm saying is that you need to buy these.

ya, basically I play lots of racing games...like 75% of my games are racing games...and I would use it for GT3/GT4 as well...
That's the only reason I'm debating...cause the z-5500s would help out every game, plus music and movies...but the wheel is only for racing games...

I think I want the speakers more though.

Just gotta tell my dad to order them now...

Thanks for bringing the xbox 360 part up and all!! I forgot to mention that...i only have a PS2, but man the other great part is that you can hook the speakers up to your TV if it has Coxial or optical...these speakers can be used for a lot of different setups...

And like you said...if you have an X-Fi sound card, you can hear all of the details on these speakers...you can really tell a lot of difference in quality of MP3's...such as 56kbps vs. 128kbps...These are just really awesome speakers for the price.
