Microsoft Claims Vista Is More Secure Than Linux

"The Windows Vista Six-Month Day Vulnerability Report" offers insights into the total fixed and unfixed Vista vulnerabilities, plus a comparative view of Linux, OpenOffice, and other applications. The report is available as a PDF download on the blog of Jeff Jones, the security strategy director in Microsoft's Trustworthy Computing Group.

"The results of the analysis show that Windows Vista continues to show a trend of fewer total and fewer high-severity vulnerabilities at the six-month mark compared to its predecessor product Windows XP (which did not benefit from the SDL) and compared to other modern competitive workstation OSs (which also did not benefit from an SDL-like process)," Jones wrote...

Maybe with all the annoying stuff enabled it is a pretty secure OS. But I cannot fathom it being greater than linux.

I think that's a stupid thing to say. First of all, vista has only been out 6 months, so of course there aren't all that many viruses/threats out yet. Most users are still on XP!

I could see Linux as being a security hazard, though, as it is open source. Of course, as it's been said many times before, not enough people use the OS for it to be a primary target. I suppose if more people used it, it would be easy to hack and stuff cuz:

a) The people using it are hackers anyway (as in comp-wizes)
b) The system is open source

But at this point, i'm sure Linux has less security threats than any MS OS and maybe even OS X.

Maybe hackers just don't attack things like Linux cause Linux is free and make the Hackers happy?

Open source does not mean it's not insecure. Just means you know nothing about open source...lol.

Linux is extremely secure, and many open source apps and operating systems are far more secure than their closed source counterparts. It really has nothing to do with whether it's open source or not.
