Overclocking C2D E6600 (noob)

Thread Starter
hi everyone, first of all, i´m portuguese so, if i make any mistake please excuse me. second, this is the first time i´m doing overcloking to my pc, but, i can´t do it very well (vcore 1.525 i think, FSB 1.300 i think) and it just gets to 2.79. when i got it to 3.0, when playing colin mcrae i got a BSOD, the computer restarted, and values changed to default. i wanted to get this to 3.0, or 3.2 but i need help.

-Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 6.0.6000 (Vista Retail)
-DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, 2800 MHz (9 x 311) (the maximum i got with no problem)
-Asus P5B
-4096 MB (DDR2-667 DDR2 SDRAM 4x1GB)

if you need any more information, just ask, and thanks in advance for helping me

Use the following settings please. You should have much better temps and a good OC.
---------------------------------
333mhz FSB
PCI-e freq- 100mhz
cpu vcore- 1.32v
NB voltage- 1.4v
SB voltage- 1.5v
ICH voltage- 1.02v
DDR voltage- 2.05v
--------------------------
under the 'chipset' section in your BIOS, set your RAM timings manually too, for better luck.

*If you go to your user section and fill out the rest of your system specs, it would really help get you further along.

Things you are going to need being a member of OCN.

Please look for and download the following to help us, help you!

CpuZ - this program can show you all kinds of tasty information about your current setup, including RAM timings and cpu vcore.

SuperPi- this program is used to measure performance and to stress test components when OC'ing.

...those two are a must for now.

these are optional.

Orthos- this program is used for stress testing and gathering more performance information on your current setup.
SiSandra- pretty much a 'clone' of Orthos.

3d mark 05 and 06- these are used to stress the graphics and cpu heavily. You also get a score, when the test is finished that you can compare to other users results, or your own.

Aquamark- another graphics/cpu tester. This program finishes in several minutes...much faster for quick tests, than 3d mark.

ok, did the changes, pc didn´t explode, looking cool, but cpu at 2.79 anyway : / do i have to chage the cpu freq? now it´s 310, but, an hour ago, if i raised this value the pc didn´t function as well as it does now...

downloading cpu z and superpi lol

One more thing...after you get CpuZ, install it and read the tab marked 'memory' and the tab marked 'SPD'. Record those values and post them please. Then we can see if you can go further.

btw, when changing ddr voltage, the value 2,05 showed in dark red... is this good? lol

Looks good, but you need to lower your timings to 5-5-5-15-5-25-9-9-9-9 in the BIOS. Also, you still have around 15-20mhz to OC your FSB before your RAM is even at its stock speed again. You should be safe for your OC up to around 350mhz FSB...as long as your temps can hang.

..yes thats fine. It will only be around 1.9=1.95v in windows, which is exactly what you need.

do you have speed step disabled? doesn't play nicely with OCs, as well as all spread spectrums

Try it like this:

__________

I've let all the power saving features on (enabled) so that my CPU even overclocked will consume less energy and therefore the frequency will change from 2.0GHZ to the full 3.0GHZ when needed/full load.

I use a 2:3 ratio (which gives me a 1000mhz RAM Frequency) but you should run a 1:1 RATIO or if you can, a 4:5 ratio, that will bring the RAM to DDR2 835. Use a 2.10v, besides, I think your P5B may be limited to 2.10v max, unless you have the Rev 1.03g.

On a 2nd note: for RAM timings, try a 4-4-4-10-6-35-10-10-10-10.
