If you're still a little lost, you have to download the Folding@Home program, install it on your computer, and run it in the background, which it will do by itself unless you tell it not to. When you install it though, you choose a username (keep your username the same as the one on here) and team number, and ours is 37726. Our team is ranked among other teams, and our users are likewise ranked within the team. I'm not sure how you do it with a quad-core CPU, but with a dual CPU like mine you can run two instance of the program for twice the folding, and with hyperthreading I may even be able to run four instances, but I prefer to keep hyperthreading turned off unless I plan on doing a lot of video editing. Anyway, its kind of a bragging rights thing for techies all over the place, and it helps research at the same time... join the team!
