hmm i wouldnt worry too much about it- that is unless it gets worse. but if i could attribute it to anything off the top of my head it sounds like it might be something to do with a power saving feature- like after a certain period of time the disk might shut off and there might be some process that wakes it up like indexing service.
hmm im jumpin to conclusions. under what circumstances does it usually happen?

Are you sure that noise is not a fan? I have a Thermaltake Shark which comes with a 120mm front fan and it's right next to the hard drives and at first I thought it was the hard drive spinning real fast or going bad but no.

So once in a while I tap the front of the case with my foot to quiet the noise. It just happened about 15 min ago. It's annoying.

When hard drives start going bad, they make a clicking sound constantly or periodically. click, click, click....

happens totally random times.....every 30 mins - hr.......

even if no one is using it.......thats the weird part.

yes im sure its the HD its make the same sound when you first start up your PC and the hard disk starts turning and warming up......

its nothing big.......just getting annoyed by the sound

Well I rememeber older HDDs had a problem with the heat. After a certain temperature the disk would enlarge some millimeters or something and thus there would be a problem since the HDD would read the wrong part. So they added this feature thingie that when it would enlarge it reseted itself to adjust to the enlarged HDD or something.

There are also people saying that when you hear that its the end of the HDD but I had an HDD doing that stupid thing for 2 years before I just putted it away cause I got a bigger one.
