8800GTX Ultra review shows close performance w 2900XT - Page 5

I was looking for a new GPU and was considering the GTX or GTS to run a 1680X1050 resolution for my new Build.

But then I kinda wanted the 2900XT, based upon reading about its performance.

As far as the 8800's go I have the GTS (640) and it runs pretty good on 1680X1050 resolution. But if i do buy one I will wait till November when prices will drop.

Heres some thing I was reading on 2007 best deals for GPU's.

Even if the 2900XT did win, it wouldn't justify the money

You would first have to buy a new PSU that had an 8pin PCI-E cable so that you could OC it

Or you could buy a 8800GTX and OC it with a 6 pin PCI-E cable

(that was a non fan boy opinion)
I believe you can still overclock the card if you only have dual 6-pin PCI-E connectors, you just can't use ATI CCC to do the overclocking. The extra 2 pins on the 8-pin connector are just grounds, so an adapter wouldn't help much, if at all.

I don't think there is any doubt that the 2900 is a great card, it maybe better yet, but as said before, its a bit too late to compete with the 8800 series. Technology released much after its competitors should have won across the board, not "close performance too"
It would be like if Intel released Conroe and the AMD processors out-performed them.

Wowwwwwww. I remember a few weeks ago everyone was talking about how a 2900xt was getting owned by an 8800gt. The tables have turned.
And yes, if you own an 8800 you can cry on my shoulder.

This review is a pile of :turd:. I would like to see 2900xt owners bench their GPUs and see if they can crack the top 15 of THIS forum.

Edit: Better yet I am going to purchase a 2900xt today and do my own benches/ comparisons.

Please do, then send me the card for half the price...you have enough money, so it doesn't matter lol.
