if i were to get a mac book now would i get some kind of a free upgrade coupon for when their new OS comes out? you know how MS did it with vista, how they let you upgrade for free if you bought a pc with xp installed within a few months of release? i really want their new OS when it comes out but i don't want to have to wait for it to come out to get a mac book.

Mid to late October, no date though, sorry. If you can, use the student discount. It will drop the price of the MacBook by $100, drop the price of upgrades by some about ($20-$50ish), cut the price of the Apple Care plan almost in half, and drop the price on software by about 1/3. Also, if you have the student discount, I hear you will be able to get Leopard for $70 instead of $129

I am in the same boat you are, and I have decided to get the MacBook over the summer then upgrade down the road (I just cant wait that long, lol).
