If you could pull it off @ 1.5-1.6v... and your load temps were no more than high sixties to dead seventy? I think that's okay for 24/7.

Considering the QX6700 Loads at like 70c with the stock HSF.

I would say it is possible for a suicide run, but not likely 24/7. To get to those speeds you have to be able to increase the vcore voltage a good amount. The same voltage it takes to get an E6600 to 4Ghz on air would not put out near as much heat. You basically have twice as many cores to cool at that voltage. I have hit 4Ghz on air, but it was not stable, and it was hot. More voltage would have stablized it, but would have also pushed the temps even higher.

Water cooling would help, but I am not sure if it would help enough. I will let you know if a week or so once my WC setup arrives.

I am able to run 4Ghz+ stable due to the phase cooling on my main rig. It gives me idle temps of -40C and load temps folding 24/7 of about -34C.

With G0 stepping comes a few added benefits. Lower heat production which will generally translate into larger overclocking headroom. I am not sure about all the enhancements that make up the G0 stepping, but initial results from those that have got there hands on an ES chip are very promising.

yea i do plan on upgrading, and getting the p5k del. mobo, click on "Project: Aurora" for the components i will be getting

ic, was plannin on 24/7; wat do u think would be the highest Ghz i could reach with an ultra 120 heatsink/cooler and 3 120mm fans running 24/7? and wat is a good CPU temp?

around 3.2-3.6. Temp might be around 60C. Thats by taking the average that i've seen so far

Agree,

3.2 is an average OC
3.6 is a great OC (Thats a 1.2Ghz OC)
3.6 + is bonus OC points

I usually shoot for the load temps in the lower 60s(~60 to ~65). You may be able to run 24/7 at 70 and have a long life with you processor, but part of a good OC is getting good speed out of your CPU with as low of temps possible.

What if he lapped his cpu? I too am thinking about getting a quad, but it runs hot.

graysky lapped his Extreme and his Q6600 and got decent temps at 3.0ghz. it's a possibility. HOwever, I'm not exactly sure of the benefits being worth the voided warranty and resell value.
